Odisha Election Results 2024 Live: BJP gets majority in Odisha Assembly; Naveen Patnaik to lose power after 24 years

The BJP got majority in the Odisha Assembly by winning 78 seats in the 147-member House on Tuesday, according to the Election Commission of India after counting concluded today. The BJD which is in power in Odisha since 2000 won 51 Assembly seats and the Congress has won 14 Assembly seats. The BJD in the 2019 Assembly elections had won 113 seats while BJP got 23 seats and Congress 9 seats. Meanwhile, BJP has secured 20 seats in the Odisha Lok Sabha elections out of the 21 seats and BJD has secured one. In a post on social media site X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “Thank you Odisha! It’s a resounding victory for good governance and celebrating Odisha’s unique culture. Nifty tumbles as NDA not coasting to easy win as exit poll forecast, Adani stocks hammered

Sensex and Nifty 50 dropped 3 percent ahead of the June 4 election results, as early trends show that the NDA coalition's majority may not be as emphatic as exit polls had forecast. Shares of state-owned companies and key Adani group stocks were among the biggest losers in early trade. These stocks had gained the most on Monday. "The market discounted the election outcome on June 3 itself. It is expecting the BJP-led NDA to win 350-375 seats. If this number becomes a reality, the market will likely sustain the gains," said Kranthi Bathini, Director of Equity Strategy at WealthMills Securities. At 9.42 am, the Sensex was down 2,242 points or 2.9 percent at 74,226 and the Nifty 50 was down 697 points or 3 percent at 22,566. About 420 shares advanced, 2,610 shares declined, and 90 shares remained unchanged.
